Wins And Wins And Wins

May 6, 2012

Pitching wins are stupid. I know this. You know this. Kiribatian children who’ve never heard of baseball know this. Unfortunately, some of the people who vote for the Hall of Fame don’t know this, or choose to ignore it, which adds a bittersweet aftertaste even to a walkoff extra-inning win on Willie Mays’s birthday.

See this guys? You use it to hit the ball.

We’ve got a long way to go before we talk seriously about Matt Cain and the HOF, and thank goodness for that because it means we get to keep watching him be awesome. But at a certain point these gems-that-wind-up-in-a-no-decision (or even, sometimes, a loss) are going to hurt his chances of being immortalized and remembered as an all-time great. Arbitrary, unfair, stupid. Also: true.

In happier news: Nice to salvage a couple wins (the real kind) to end the homestand. Now, hows about a sweeeeeep in LA? Pretty please?
